When is coaching legally permitted during tournament pickleball?

USA Pickleball Rule 3.A.4 forbids active coaching from spectators, family members, or designated coaches while points are underway or during the brief 10-second interval between rallies. Any verbal instructions, tactical hand gestures, or electronic communications during active game play subject the player to a technical warning. The only designated coaching windows are during 60-second timeouts, during medical timeouts, and during the 2-minute break between game transitions. Breaching this rule can result in point forfeiture by the tournament director.
